چکیده

We demonstrated a 10GHz low phase noise differential Colpitts Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) utilizing TSMC 0.18 m μ 1P6M CMOS process with transformer coupling technology. The transformer coupling approach not only reduces the phase noise but also improves the power consumption owing to the number of active devices can be reduced. The total power consumption of this VCO is 20 mW and there is only 8mW power consumption in the oscillator core under lower supply voltages. By adding the buffers to the output terminals, it avoids the influence from the parasitic effects and also achieves a good performance in low phase noise.

A Thesis for the Degree of Master Low-Power CMOS Differential LC-VCO and QVCO Design

This thesis presents a backgate coupled QVCO with current reused structure, and complementary cross-coupled differential Colpitts VCO and QVCO. The formally proposed QVCO not only dissipates significantly lower power but also improves 1/ƒ close-in phase noise, compared to the conventional QVCO. For verification of the suggested idea, the proposed QVCO designed for 2 GHz operation based on a 0.1...

A Low Power and Low Phase Noise Complementary Colpitts Quadrature VCO

A low power and low-phase noise quadrature voltage controlled oscillator (QVCO) using the differential complementary Colpitts oscillator topology has been developed. A transformer inductor is used to form a differential output oscillator and the back-gate coupling technique is used to generate quadrature outputs. The advantage of proposed QVCO is analyzed in terms of power consumption, phase no...

A Thesis for the Degree of Master Low Power, Low Phase Noise Differential Colpitts VCO∕QVCO using Gm boosting

Recently, the small size and the low power are required as the demand of the wireless communication application field increases. Because there are various problems that it is generated as the size and power consumption become smaller, many efforts are necessary in order to solve it. In the case of an oscillator, 1/f noise is increased as the size of chip becomes smaller. Therefore this affects ...

Analysis and Design of X Band CMOS Quadruture VCO using Transformer-Resonator Coupling with Deep mode switching

A fully integrated X-Band quadrature VCO is presented. The VCO is implemented using transformer-coupled resonator in 0.18 μm CMOS technology, in which two VCOs are coupled by direct current modulation method to generate I-Q signals. The VCO is realized employing the drain-gate transformer feedback configuration proposed here. This allows VCO to use the quality factor enhancement in coupled reso...

High-Frequency Low-Noise Voltage-Controlled LC-Tank Oscillators Using a Tunable Inductor Technique

This paper describes 3-GHz and 7-GHz tunableinductance LC-tank voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) implemented in 0.18-μm CMOS technology. Unlike the traditional tuning method by a varactor, a tunable inductor is employed in the VCO by using a transformer to compensate for the energy loss. The VCO facilitates the tuning frequency and low noise of the output signals, together with a variable i...
